Got us to our destinations in one piece. So far we are happy. You’ll need a torque wrench and some heavy duty muscles. I was not able to move the dang thing but my super strong husband was amazing at it. At least he can get to 200lbs of torque because I sure as heck wouldn’t have.

I needed to buy this hitch in order for my 2013 Ford F350's trailer hitch tow capacity to be 12,500 lbs. With a normal slide in ball (not weight distributing), the hitch is only rated at 6,000 lbs. That's nuts considering the truck is a diesel F350 but it's the hitch that came stock with the truck. This setup took a bit of time and a call to Curt to figure out how to set it up properly. I had to buy a dropper bar to lower the ball a few inches otherwise my dump trailer was riding too high in the front and low in the back. It's set up properly now and it works well.

Complete and pretty easy to install. Using this with a 2004 F150 Super Crew 5.4 with a factory tow package. I pull a 24' x 8.5' 4200 lb box trailer with a 3000lb race car and maybe 400 lbs misc stuff. So we are pretty much at the tow limit for the truck. A rear sway bar and new Rancho shocks on the rear of the truck helped at first, then I added this hitch and that helped the truck pull much nicer. The instructions included are "meh" - decent but brief. Good enough to get the hitch installed. I highly recommend watching the video about installation and adjustment that is available on the Curt web site. Once you get it adjusted and the ball height set, it takes just a couple of minutes to hook up or to unhook and stow. Double check your tongue weight before setting the bars so you get the proper weight transfer. I have not added any other sway controls but the way the winds blow out here in west Texas I may still have to do that. I saved the box and stow the hitch and bars in the box, then leave them in the trailer when not in use. The hitch is pretty big, heavy and sticks out pretty far from the receiver, so I don't care to run around with it hanging off the back of the truck. My shins appreciate that, I'm sure.

So this has a little story to it. I have a 10K trailer that has a 950lbs tongue. Driving cross country from Los Angeles, CA to Nashville, TN one of the load bars broke on the road. I called Curt at 4:50pm and got a hold of one of their tech support reps. He was able to call a local rep in NM and stayed after hours to make sure i was getting taken care of. I was instructed to go to a Curt Distributor in the morning at 8am to do a warranty swap. The shop called Curt and within 20 minutes i was out the door with a whole new setup. They even paid for a local RV shop to put the new setup together for me and ship the old unit back. Now $1 our of my pocket. My only warning to you is to keep 25% of the tongue weight available. For example.....750lbs Tongue = 1000lbs Tongue load barsIf you are close to the 1000lbs mark then get their new setup with round bars that has a capacity of 14K and 1,400lbs tongue load.

The hitch came from Amazon with just marginal packagiing, but no parts were lost. The hitch is well made and has good instructions. The rated load is accurate. There is one design fault: the adjustment for setting the angle of the hitch ball bracket [ to set the spring bar load] is kept in place only by the friction of the side clamping bolts. there is no "keeper" to prevent the bracket angle from changing, relying on the spring bar load to hold things together. Should the hitch be used w/o the spring bars [as I do sometimes for short distances] the bracket angle can slip down letting the setup plugs fall out. I added a 1/2" bolt to hold things together after the spring bar load is setup.

BACKGROUND:We have been pulling a travel trailer (about 4500 lbs fully loaded) with our 2006 Toyota Sequoia (6500 lbs tow capacity) for the past year without a weight distributing hitch. The manufacturer recommended using a weight distributing hitch for loads over 2500 lbs and the back of the vehicle did drop by several inches with the trailer on so we decided to do the "right" thing and get a proper hitch. This was the best deal I could find (and with free shipping to boot!).MY EXPERIENCE:While waiting for the hitch to arrive, I checked the Curt website and found installation instructions for the 17300 hitch. I familiarized myself with these directions but was surprised to discover that when the actual hitch arrived the installation instructions were different and the hitch design was slightly different than that described on the manufacturer's site. This was still worthwhile however, because the installation instructions that came with the hitch were relatively vague and left a lot of guesswork (which the original directions helped fill in).The most frustrating aspect of this hitch is getting it adjusted for the first time. After assembling the hitch as per directions, I found that there was not enough chain to tighten up the trunnion bars. The only real way to check the function of the hitch is to assemble it, connect the trailer and tighten up the trunnion bars. If it needs to be adjusted, the trunnion bars have to be loosened off, the trailer disconnect and the hitch disassembled and adjusted. I ended up doing this three times before it was finally adjusted to a point that everything was working well. The good news is that once this is dialed in, you should never have to touch it again. All said, I would say it took the better part of a day to get it setup correctly (at least for me).Towing with the hitch is much improved. The Sequoia sits level now and is noticeably more composed in corners. Braking is also improved as there is more weight on the front tires which normally do the most braking.FINAL THOUGHTS:The initial installation and adjustment of the hitch is a test of patience but once set it does improve towing performance in my experience. There is good value for money here and it is relatively easy to connect and disconnect once setup.
