I purchased it to compress the spring on the serpentine belt tensioner. It worked just fine, it is the safe way to compress the spring . I used it on a 2013 Buick Lacrosse 2.4L hybrid.

Initially, I couldn't get it to fit correctly on the Ioniq as shown on some of the YouTube videos because opening it enough to fit went past the guides that helped keep this tool aligned. Attempted to use it but the I couldn't get it to close correctly. I then realized this guide is just a roll pin and so I was able to have the pin held in a table vice while I worked the tool free of the roll pin. I then extended the tool as far as the bolt allows and then reinstalled the roll pin so that it stuck out a bit past the maximum the bolt goes before coming off the bracket, then it worked fine.It took 2 people to use. one to turn the bolt with a socket wrench and another person with a box wrench to apply some pressure to keep the tool from slipping off. I then was able to easily remove the belt, but decided to do some from underneath the car to make things easier, instead of needing to fish the belt through the top and hoping to get it to align correctly. Upon inspecting the tool after we were done I noticed the bolt seemed to have stripped a bit in the middle from the amount of pressure it's put under while compressing the spring to remove the old belt.Make sure you compress the spring past what's required to remove the old belt to make sure you have enough room to install the new belt. It seemed like my old belt was stretched maybe 0.5" bigger than the new one and that's with the belt being in use for ~70k miles. Good luck!

Used on my 2017 Kia Niro. The tool has a bolt and a guide pin. To get the tool on the spring I had to open the tool beyond where the guide pin holds the two ends in place. Took many trys while guiding the tool to stay in place. Kept wanting to slide off the top. Finally put a vice grip on the top bolt next to where the upper tool fits on the spring assembly to keep the tool from sliding off. The bolt and guide pin need to be at least 1/4” longer. There’s a YouTube video replacing one on an ioniq, they had the same problem. I give it 3 stars for cost and it eventually did the job.

2018 Kia NiroThis is the tool specifically stated in the manufacturer’s manual for replacing the serpentine belt, albeit surely a Chinese knock off at the price. The bolt provided is a quarter inch too short to fit over the tensioner. The bolt provided is class 12.9, which is in an extremely strong bolt. I tried grabbing a longer bolt from ace hardware, but the best I could find is class 8.8. With the tension on this device, that simply wasn’t going to be wise or safe once I started cranking down. But even with a stronger bolt at the proper length, the guide pin in the device is not long enough to keep it straight as you crank down.

This tool worked flawlessly on the my 2019Kia Niro EX Hybrid. It took me about a half hour total and I did it all from above.I used a long 3/8 extension to push the belt past the crankshaft pulley bolt. You can jack the vehicle up and remove the guard underneath, but to me it's not necessary.I changed the belt at 80k miles. It's supposed to be changed at 60k.The belt was definitely stretched, but I had plenty of room to install the tool. The tool didn't twist, stayed on tight and didn't require any modifications. It is difficult to get a typical 17mm wrench in there, but I had a short wrench that worked great.I left the upper tensioner tensioned until I installed the tool, then I released the upper tensioner and tightened down the tool.I believe the Kia/Hundai tool won't let you tighten it too much, but this tool may so I was careful to only tighten it as much as I needed in order to get the belt out and back in again. This job was easier than some regular serpentine belts that I've changed.

Seriously a tool that is required to change a serpentine belt. To me that is poor engineering. I'm thankful that this tool is a fraction of the cost of the Hyundai/Kia tool that they call out. This tool does the job but can be a little fickle when ensuring it is engaged when trying to remove the old serpentine belt. I would suggest taking your time when compressing the belt tensioner to ensure the tool is completely seated so there is no chance of it slipping off....as that would be dangerous.

As most of you know, this tool at OTC and other big name OEM tool suppliers comes in anywhere from $250 to $390. The fact this tool is a little less than $60 bucks is wonderful. Don't get me wrong, anyone should be free to charge "what the market will bear". But these high dollar versions for something any average shop might service 2 or 3 times a year for $15-$20 bucks of metal, to sit on the tool shelf? That's crazy.Make sure you get the replacement tensioner from GM. There is one bolt that should be, must be replaced. The bolt part number is listed on Repair Link with the tensioner. Put on a new belt belt to "CYA" since it is a P.I.A. to replace or you'll have a comeback. Use Bando or GM belt.
