These Cobra Fatty Freeway Bars are a perfect fit for my 2007 V-Star 1300 tour bike. I almost didn't want to order these after reading some of the reviews stating how difficult they were to install. However, I followed the included instructions and had them installed in under 1 hour with no modifications needed. I installed the top 2 bolts first (loosely); followed by the bottom right-hand side bolts (loosely); followed by the bottom left-hand side bolt (loosely). After which I tightened everything up starting with the top 2 bolts. Every hole lined up perfectly. This is the kind of quality I expected from a respected name like "Cobra".

The Bars look nice. The setup of the hole's for mounting is wrong. The two bolts that hold it to the steering column are sized just enough for the bolt to go through. The bar setup is all welded so there is no room for miss shaped bars. I striped out one of the top bolts trying to get it to bolt on.Like most things nowadays its probably built in China. All it would take is to mill the mounting hole a 1/4" to give some room to adjust for any deformity in the bar. The problem is that you have spent most of your time getting the bars onto the frame so you don't know which way you need to adjust the hole when you are ready to mount it the steering column.

They are definitely not easy to install. Here are some tips:* Do not follow the installation instructions. I made the mistake of doing it before following the advise of some earlier posters. A big thanks to them for posting the instructions that actually work.* Do not discard any of the factory bolts.* You need a universal joint socket. Don't even think of installing without that tool.* Install the top bolts first. Do not use the bolts provided, they won't fit. Use the ones that you took out from the master brake cylinder.I installed the Kuryakyn 4574 Longhorn Offset highway pegs on them. They look great. I hope the manufacturers read the feedback about the bolts provided and the installation instructions provided several customers and do something to fix it.

I received these today. I put them on and they look great. They are a little difficult to install. I tried installing them by the instructions and when that didn't work I took another approach. At 1st, I put the bottom bolts in 1st (like the instructions said). The top holes would not line up (About 3/8" to 1/2" too low). So, I took the bottom bolts out and put the top bolts in 1st. This allowed me to push down on the ends enough to get the bottom bolts in. The bolts that come with the kit are approximately 1/4" too long. They Bottom out. The instructions say to discard the factory bolts, don't do it. The factory bolts were plenty long enough to do the job. So, i just put them back in. Took me about 2 hours to put them on. This shouldn't have taken more than an hour IMO. But, I do like them and the pegs I put on them look great. I put the Kuryakyn 4574 Longhorn Offset Dually Highway Pegs with 1-1/2" Clamp on them. Haven't got to test the pegs yet (and hope I never test the bars), been too cold and wet around here. But just sitting on the bike, I think these are going to be very comfy. The only thing I didn't like about the bar was the difficulty of installing them. Other than that I love them, so far. All this said, I would recommend them because they do look great. Just be ready to put some muscle into installing them.

I'm not sure what the first two reviewers were talking about as far as not fitting. I was able to install in less then an hour (30-40 minutes). I placed the the top bolts first and loosely fitted them. I then loosely fitted the rest of the bolts to insure there was no cross threading. What slowed me down was large hands and trying to get bolts started in a tight spaces which is not Cobra's fault.Shocking, but you will need tools to do this project. Nothing fancy just basic metric sockets, ratchet and a U-joint and some allen wrenches. The left side was a good 3/4" - 1" gap to wrench down, I think this was by design to stiffen the highway bars when the final tightening was completed.Instructions were easy to follow and all parts were provided. You have to move the master cylinder on the right side out with a provided spacer and bolts and if you have a charcoal filter on the left side they provide you with a bracket extender for that with an extra bolt for that too. A second person would have helped a little bit, but I was able to do it by myself without too much trouble.Easy install and improved the look of the bike greatly. I also added some Great for long rides and fit the Cobra freeway bars perfect. I would recommend this setup to anyone.

The holes are not line up. If put the side screws, the middle section will not fit. If put the middle screws, either left or right section will not fit. You have to choose between secure the center or secure the side.

I cannot stress the value this Engine Guard provides your bike. Unlike many OEM crash guards that are two piece and mount to your bike on the top and bottom, this guard is EXTREMELY sturdy. I've seen the OEM bars simply bend at the tabs (the tabs are the weak point) and collapse into the engine/tank where as the Cobra Fatty will hold it's shape and protect your legs as well as your engine. I had an accident in October of last year and if it wasn't for the Cobra engine guard, I'm sure I would have been injured a lot worse and more than likely totaled the bike. As it was, I just have to replace my bags, fairing, and Cobra guard and not the whole bike. In fact, the frame and engine didn't have a scratch. The Cobra fatty did exactly what I expected it to do...protect the bike!
