This compact but HEAVY bike lock does the trick. It's easy to lock and unlock (with key) and is thick enough that only a pro bike thief with serious bolt cutters is going to be able to get through it. With that in mind, I feel safe leaving my bike for quick errands. This isn't the only lock I use--I also U-lock the frame to a rack or structure whenever possible--but this goes through my back wheel and chain and effectively prevents anyone from riding or walking off with it. I have the large size.

I love to have these on a quick bike ride for running errands. Carrying a heavy duty chain for a 5 minute errand in a store doesn’t make sense. With this, I can toss it in a strapover bag, place it on my belt loop, or lock it around the frame of the bike while riding and it doesn’t weigh me down.
