The instructions suck and I’ve watched fish tug at my line while this thing never even budged

Bought these for my avid fisherman grandson. He loves them. They are very sturdy and self explanatory. He fishes with more than one pole at a time, so they are have been very useful. Great quality. I had never seen them before, so I scoured the internet for price comparison. Amazon had the best price. He is extremely happy with them.

This product works, but I believe it works for specific species. The way this sets the hook, is heavy. I intended to use this for carp, which is a heavy hit and heavy hook-set when they run. Smaller species or sensitive species like trout may be too much and may rip the hook our of their mouth. In my experience, smaller species cannot trigger the product.I specifically use this for my second pole for catfish, carp, or for any other fish that will bite a bottom line. This is a great sitting in your chair waiting for a bite or for a second rod while you're actively working your primary rod.Setting the sensitivity is not hard, but not really easy either. I found the best way to do this is to not only to set the where the line sits on the trigger (toward the end), but to also set the trigger on the edge of triggering. This has caused the pole to almost smack me in the face several times. Be mindful of this.If you can get this set right, your hook-sets will increase. At first I was running around 25% because they couldn't trigger it and would spit the hook. I got it in the 80%+ range of successful hook ups when I was able to dial in the product in.For what you pay for, this is a pretty sturdy product that simply works. The way this is built, it will last for many years. I would not recommend this for smaller people as there is some level of danger of getting smacked in the face or catching your fingers. Be mindful to watch your kids and watch them until they become proficient on setting this product.Overall, I would say this product works and I would recommend.

They work, but need modded. Drill out the rivets that attach the rod holder to the bottom section, replace with bolts (reduce friction) remove the bolt the spring attaches to and the one that secures the section that goes into the ground. Relocate the spring to the bolt that secures the section that goes into the ground for extra "oomph" at hook-set. smooth/polish and lube the trigger sear, remove the spring that holds the latch and that helps reduce the friction on the trigger sear as well. When setting up, move the trigger forward till it's right at the point where it breaks and wrap the line from between the first and second eyes around the lowest point on the trigger. Carefully take up the slack and set back and wait. The gen1's were a nice galvanized steel, the newer ones are flimsy and some kind of dull alloy. V2 is no where near as nice as the V1's.
