I've been upgrading my home network to 2.5Gb speeds and bought this for a pc that has an embedded 1Gb nic. This device will connect to the 2.5Gb switch temporarily, report that it is connected at 2.5Gb speeds and then within a few minutes completely die. The little globe icon indicating no network connection will appear in the System tray. The Windows troubleshooter tool resets the device but it dies within a few minutes. I tried different USB ports, different cables, different switch ports, different 2.5Gb switches, etc. I even tried it on another PC. Nothing works - it will not stay connected. The one time I tried a file transfer, it was only transferring at around 30 MBps. Theoretically it should be pushing over 200 Mbps.I see someone recommended downloading and installing the driver available on ASUS' website... but the driver is unsigned so I am not going to risk installing it.

Initially had issues using the Microsoft driver (11.1.621.2021 3/3/2016) which is what you get if you just plug in. Ethernet would drop and would need to disable-re-enable to restore..Updating driver to Realtek driver (1156.15.20.327 3/27/2024) for RTL8156b chip set from realteks website mitigated the issue.. Also the realtek driver exposes a lot of configurations options to fine tune.

When optical fiber broadband internet finally came to our neighborhood after a long wait, I had to quickly and affordably figure out how to share the speed with many clients. With this adapter, it was true plug and play on all three of my home operating systems (Mac, Windows, and Linux). One very old laptop fortunately had an early gen USB3 port, and it too moves along at close to 2Gig speed. This device worked so well, I bought two more. A great solution at a decent price.

I purchased this so I could create a second 2.5 Gbps port on my Asus GT-AX11000 Rapture modem, which only comes with a single 2.5 Gbps port. I did not want to lose access to my 1200+ mbps speeds on Xfinity by moving my PC to a gigabit port. I used this device to connect my S33 modem's 2.5 Gbps port to one of my USB ports on my GT-AX11000 router, and set the router to utilize USB as WAN. The process did work, but as with most USB3.0 devices, this caused just enough interference with the 2.4Ghz wireless signal to drop my further away device from the network (Nest outdoor camera). The work-around is to separate the device further from the modem and shield the device to avoid RFI. I wrapped the device in tinfoil to block RFI, and my outdoor camera can connect just fine now. I can't knock the product, because it does exactly what it says. That RFI issue is something you will see on almost any USB3.0 device. I chose this product due to it matching the brand of my router and having seen a few other users on Asus forums reporting it functioning the way I'm using it. None of them mentioned the RFI issues, however.

Finding a USB network adapter that works on Linux is a challenge in itself. Very pleased to add this to my backup server, Ubuntu 22.04 LTS and it worked straight away, no messing with kernel modules and downloads.Server is a 2 disk mirror of HDDs, but managed to max out at 200MBs/1600Mbs reading off it which is as much as I'd expect off a couple of 5400 spinners.

Overall works as advertised and achieving full 2.5g speeds. Only issue is the adapter adds 10ms of latency over my desktop's built-in ethernet. Not a huge deal, as my latency is still quite low, but worth being aware of.

Plug and play on Linux, which is nice. Also it's USB A so it doesn't have a tendency to fall out like USB-C does. The dongle has a short cord and the housing feels sturdy. There are other options, but I wanted to buy from a reputable brand and thirty bucks is cheap frankly.I'm fortunate to have 10 gigabit internet at home and my desktop only has a 1gige port. Connected to the 10gige port on my router and it's certainly more than doubled my connection. This is a nice option if you don't have a PCIe slot available for a dedicated 10 gig card. No complaints at all so far, I more than doubled my bandwidth and I'm hitting around 2.3gbps to my nearest speed test location.Of course, this is only worth it if you actually have a connection that's faster than gigabit, and 95% of people don't. Even then, most NAS boxes, virtually all consumer routers and even speedtest servers are gigabit at best.
