Black Devil Spike Snails (Faunus ater) are large snails with dark colored shells, growing up to 3 inches when fully grown. Also known as Lava Snails, their long, glossy shells taper into sharp, spike-like points and range from shades of chocolate brown to deep blacks. Their bodies are often gray/black or chestnut brown. They look particularly great alongside aquarium castle decorations! These prime aquarium snails are relatives to the popular Malaysian Trumpet Snails, but they are more similar in shape and size to Giant Sulawesi Snails. They primarily come from brackish waters in Thailand, but are also found in other parts of Asia. They thrive in freshwater, but will only breed in saltwater, so you never have to worry about overpopulation in your indoor room aquarium with these! Black Devil Snails are more resilient and active than Giant Sulawesi Snails, having the ability to move faster throughout the aquarium tank. They are capable of living in colder temperatures and are known as excellent clearers of tank substrate. These peaceful aquarium inhabitants are safe to keep with nonaggressive freshwater fish, dwarf shrimp (such as Blue Velvet Shrimp, Jade Green Shrimp, etc.), large shrimp, and other snails, but we recommend keeping your living decorations out of reach, as these snails are known to graze on live aquatic plants. However, they will typically leave a Marimo Moss Ball alone. Basic aquarium supplies are required when raising these snails, such as a fish tank pump system (e.g. silent pump or propeller pump) and aquarium reactor like a calcium reactor to promote shell health and a healthy aquarium environment.

I’m so happy I ordered these little devils. They’re a nice addition to my fish tank. The packaging was amazing never have I had anything shipped with such care for live creatures. Shout out to whom ever packaged my snails. It’s obvious you care about them as much as I do. Thanks for the quick delivery. All good and healthy I definitely would order again

They're all healthy from what I can tell, and I'm no expert. They're lively, and they sent an extra one! Oh, and they're bigger than what they said they were gonna be, but that's fine with me.

They were packaged very safely, and it's cold October 24th, and they had a hand warmer pad to create heat in the box next to their container and in a Styrofoam box so they are isolated from cooler temps for transport. It took them 10 minutes or so for them to start getting used to their surrounding but they are very active and I'm very happy that I received 6 instead of 5!! So cool, the other fish love them, they are interested in them, and very fun to watch the snails move around and eat :D

Yoooo these snails are DOPE AF!!! I was expecting them to be half inch to 1 and half inch. NOPE all over 2 inches. The order was for 5 Black Devil Spike Snails. These Bad Ass MF'ers sent 6. The look nice and healthy no shell cracks. Damn near perfect. The packaging was great secure and came with heating pad. Will definitely be buying from Aquatic Arts in the future. 10 out of 10

This is my first time buying any aquatic creatures via Amazon. The shipping was supposed to take an extra week or more before shipping but ended up coming within 4 days of my order. There were 6 Black Devil Spike Snails that were sent to me (I assume one extra in case another didn't make it) and were packed like gold was being shipped. They were well protected and packed with extreme care. I didn't see the instructions for climatizing them to my tanks so I jumped the gun a bit. I have put separated them into three tanks and have waited until now (about a month later) to write the review. Each one seems to be thriving; I purchased these as a recommendation in controlling some algae issues I have in a couple of the tanks. I think it is 'hair algae' but I have nothing to confirm it except visuals. One tank is perfectly clear of the issue and another was much worse but is now clearing up decently.I did contact the company via an Amazon order link to let them know how impressed I was with receiving them so fast and all alive. They responded with appreciation (thanks Preston) and asked me to consider writing a review. I would have done so on the spot but wanted to give a little time to make sure they all remained alive, active, and did the job I was hoping.
