Also known as Lava Snails, their long, glossy shells taper into sharp, spike-like points and range from shades of chocolate brown to deep blacks. Their bodies are often gray/black or chestnut brown. They look particularly great alongside aquarium castle decorations! These prime aquarium snails are relatives to the popular Malaysian Trumpet Snails, but they are more similar in shape and size to Giant Sulawesi Snails. They primarily come from brackish waters in Thailand, but are also found in other parts of Asia. They thrive in freshwater, but will only breed in saltwater, so you never have to worry about overpopulation in your indoor room aquarium with these! Black Devil Snails are more resilient and active than Giant Sulawesi Snails, having the ability to move faster throughout the aquarium tank. They are capable of living in colder temperatures and are known as excellent clearers of tank substrate. These peaceful aquarium inhabitants are safe to keep with nonaggressive freshwater fish, dwarf shrimp (such as Blue Velvet Shrimp, Jade Green Shrimp, etc.), large shrimp, and other snails, but we recommend keeping your living decorations out of reach, as these snails are known to graze on live aquatic plants. However, they will typically leave a Marimo Moss Ball alone. Basic aquarium supplies are required when raising these snails, such as a fish tank pump system (e.g. silent pump or propeller pump) and aquarium reactor like a calcium reactor to promote shell health and a healthy aquarium environment.
