I am not new to IT at all, but needed (unfortunately) to install cameras to keep people out of my yard AND out of my home, on a budget and NOW.I choose the Amcrest platform based on compatability with other security / property surveillance products, which is arguably, among the best available in my country (United States of America) at this price point. Mind you - I did not want to *need* to purchase an NVR, and cameras, and POE switch(es) - but here we are. I also don't want to learn to set up a Frigate machine, though I can (sadly) see that as a possible need in my future as well.I bought this NV4108-HS refurbished, direct from the AMCREAST Store here on Amazon, and suspect the only reason the original buyer sent it back is becasue they bought it not understanding much about networking, much less POE.Let me assure you that, if you intend to (purchase and) use, or *already use* a Power Over Ethernet (POE) switch (switches) to run your cameras, and would like a basic NVR with a single, un-powered network port to supply just the basic functionality with a small number of cameras at reasonable resolutions - or even just a benchtop unit for testing cameras (that are compatable) small installations up to 8 cameras, this is a very solid choice to get started. This deck does ***NOT*** "Do AI," and I personally do not use the "P2P" feature, so I can't comment on that either - but I DO trust that, even if I decomission this deck as my "Daily Driver," I will most likely continue using it as a secondary recorder or as a test bed for cameras, switches, helping friends and family members troubleshoot stuff and the like.I guess I should offer a con, too. Okay - here's a few.It is not dishwasher safe.It is terrible at playing CDs, DVDs and Bluray Discs. It does not know how to dance. The interface is sort of clunky and takes a bit to learn to navigate (as is the case with many if not most NVRs anywhere near this price point).I hope this review sheds some light on the subject, and allows you to make the right purchase for your situation ***the first time***, even you you find you have to buy a more expensive model. Honestly, even if you need to spend two to four times more on an NVR to get what you need - I still at present, believe Amcrest is likely the BEST option. To do any better, you will have to spend SIGNIFICANTLY more money. (Thousands of dollars more).

I have found the unit to me very easy to set up and get running. I have a variety of different IP cameras and had no issue connecting any of them. Playback is very fast even if multiple cameras are selected on the timeline. I was so happy with the unit, I purchased an Amcrest camera to add to my system and I'm very happy with it as well.
