So honest its painful

Quality of this device is garbage. Purchased as a replacement for my oil fired boiler. Failed after less than 4 months of intermittent use. Woke up to a freezing cold house. Not reliable. Don't waste your time or money.

Worked great for lichtenberg device. Threaded posts made it easy to make leads with 15kv rated wire.

Lichtenberg pattern burners, this one allows for beautiful finite fern-like patterns. The lower amperage and higher voltage takes a little longer to get the probes going, but there is no blooming of fire, no deep digging into the wood. I tried this first on a piece of walnut, and it drew beautiful patterns, slowly, totally controllable.I use a variac with my lictenberg units, but with this one, you almost have to get it full power to get it going. And too much water will kill the burn, its that fragile.Absolutely love it for simulating ferns and leaves on trees and other scenes.Mounting it, I built an elevated wooden platform, about 3" off my bench, and cut out a hole that the transformer body fits into, with the probes sticking up. The flange stops it from falling through. The hinge on one end allows you to bolt it down, and even allows for a ground wire to be added. The only thing, you may want to get rid of the small flange that sticks up by one of the probes. (see it in the photo). And you only unwind the copper springs, and you are left with a nice M5 .80 thread, which I added my wires with ring crimps, and put a wing nut on top, then added shrink wrap all around the connection and shrunk it down to fit to the nut and the porcelain flange that sticks up out of the transformer. More insulation, the better. As always, be very careful. I add a light to my circuit - if the light is on, probes are hot. I also use a separate fused, switched power strip between my setup and power. I keep the light, plus another power switch on the board with the transformer. I stand on a rubber mat when using this. Although the amperage is low, the voltage is super high, and more insulation is always a good thing.Again, not an electrician? Don't have a complete understand of electricity and how it flows, including amperage, voltage, wattage? Don't do this!

I bought this for Lichtenberg wood burning. It works perfectly for this, you can get some well detailed "fractal" burns with some empirical testing. 10kv, and low milliamps makes this a relatively safe option. Never gets warm even during long burn sessions.
