The "4"x4" Fence Post Anchor Ground Spike 16"(Actual 3.6"x3.6") Heavy Duty Metal" is a good 4X4 post anchor. The one that I received seem to have good welds and steel looks okay as well. It is nice that it has been painted to help prevent against rust, but lets face it if you are putting it in the ground, it will rust eventually.I used mine to mount a 4X4 to hold a mailbox as the old post was hit and broken off. As I had to dig out the old post and the cement that it was installed with, I had a hole already. The new post needed to be mounted essentially in the same spot, hammering in this anchor into newly filled dirt wouldn't be a good idea as it would not be stable enough to hold it. In addition to that, this is in a ditch at a slope. So, I decided to pour a little cement and shove this anchor into the cement. It has some holes in the middle of the anchor so that the cement can go though it and will hold it better. So I hope that I made the right choice by using this. It may have been better to have mounted the 4X4 directly in the cement. However, I figured that if it had issues again with post rot or anything else, I could simply unscrew the old 4X4 and replace it with a new one.The included screws were great. They seemed sharp and really dug into the treated 4X4 without any issues at all.Time will tell as far as how this lasts. I think that it would be nice if the metal was a little bit thicker and that the spike portion of the anchor was a little bit longer.

I purchased this fence post anchor to install a tall 4x4 post I want to use for mounting a weather station. The post is made from solid welded metal that is about 1.8mm (0.07" or about 1/16") thick. It is evenly coated with a nice layer of finely textured, flat black paint. The box holding the post has 4 x 1/4" holes on opposite sides of the box. This enables the use of 8 fasteners (Hex head screws) or 4x 1/4" through bolts with nuts and washers. The box features 2 weep holes for draining any water that runs down the post into the box.The spearpoint that goes into the ground has 4 blades that taper to a pointed end. The spear length is 12 1/2" long and about 3 5/8" across measured across opposite blades. For hard ground you'll need to use a piece of wood on top of the post box, so you can hammer it into the soil using a sledge or back of a log splitter.I like the easy installation. It's fast and provides a fairly stable support. It also works well to keep the post end out of the ground protecting it from rot and insects. In my opinion it is not as strong as an installation that can be done using concrete. But I would say you would need a post at least 1 to 2 feet longer and a bag of concrete. Also, this would not be as simple of an installation. In terms of cost, I think the costs for the longer post and concrete would be similar to this metal mount - so not really a factor. However, in many cases like for my weather station, a birdhouse, bird feeder, or plant hanger, this holder is a real time saver and works plenty good for these less stressful applications. And for plant hooks and hangers it is stronger and stiffer than Shepard's hooks I've used, and it doesn't rust. And like Shepard's hooks and other temporary plant hanging posts they can be moved. The metal fence post anchor is a clever design. It's really well made and should last a very long time. It provides a fast, easy method of installing a vertical 4x4 piece of lumber. I probably wouldn't use it for a fence post, but for other applications as described above it's perfect and gets the job done in a fraction of the time. I'm sure I'll be ordering more of these anchors mostly for plant hangers. Recommended - reasonably priced

We bought these to use as bases for the posts of a chicken-wire dog fence. The items fit typical "4x4" lumber perfectly with minimal wiggle room. The included screws are decent quality, but we went with others we already had on hand, as phillips screws tend to strip sometimes when driving into wood. The spikes on these bases were perfect for driving into the ground, but weren't sharp at the end, which really saved us when we unexpectedly hit sprinkler pipe in one spot (the rounded tip didn't pierce the pipe, phew!). These look great, and are heavy enough for what we used them for.

This product is perfect for putting bird houses and feeders in my yard without digging holes and making a post permanent. A 4 x 4 post fits perfect and the anchor is easy to sink into the ground in the area I chose for my bird camera.
