Solid thick metal. 4 X 4 slides easily in and many holes are provided for screws on all sides. I put this in pretty loose soil in a raised planter and it hasn’t budged.

We bought a new mailbox for Christmas and these made mounting it easy. It's very sturdy and functions exactly as it's supposed to. Fit perfectly. Doesn't break or bend in hurricane force winds. Great value for the money.

The 2 Pcs 4"x4" Fence Post Anchor Ground Spike,(Internal 3.6"x3.6"),Metal Post Stake Ground 16" spikes arrived well packaged and included a note from the seller/maker, which has not only their email address, but also their cell phone number in case the buyer has questions or suggestions for improvements. That’s a first for me and quite a whoa/wow moment. For sure a clear indication the maker wants to provide a quality product that buyers are happy with. I am an avid gardener and use lots of 4x4 posts on all sort of yard projects. I need it to be solid, but still allow mobility and/or removal in the future. That’s where these kinds of products are very handy for me. I have used several brands/types over the years, and find the quality, materials and price point varies drastically by maker. So when these came up on the vine trial offer, I was happy to check them out. I will not install these until spring, but am already impressed and have no concern giving my thoughts now. These ground stakes have a good heft to them. They are not horribly heavy, but are solid quality steel. No flimsy thin metal here. The weld points are strong, and the bottom support plate has strategically placed weep holes on the underside, so any potential moisture that seeps in during a rain won’t get trapped in to rot the wood posts. The powder coat coverage is complete, including inside the post mount, on the inside edges of the mounting holes and over the weld spots. These sounds like little things, but many other makers don’t have that, as they think that area will be protected or covered by the post, screws or weld. I learned long ago the rust starts in those spots quickly if you don’t take the time to use a rust preventative before installing. So KUDOS to this maker for getting it right from the start! The set arrived with screws to secure in the posts and all you need is a spare portion of post to use as a sacrificial pounding block and a hammer/or sledge to install it. Just slide in your spare block piece, put the stake tip where you want it, and knock it in, then set your post and secure it in place. I am so pleased with this trial product, that even without installing this pair yet, I have just purchased some additional sets to replace other less quality pieces.

It was exactly what I needed to put a bird feeder post in the ground. I didn’t want to use a pole or cement to secure a 4 by 4 post. This was exactly what I needed it for.
