I got these belts to replenish the sanding belts I use on my Delta 1" x 3" belt sander. Alas, I was not paying attention and these belts are 1 1/2" wide so they will not fit my sander.The quality of these belts is outstanding. The backing is industrial grade phenolic-impregnated cloth. The grit is silicon carbide, which is excellent for abrading or sharpening metal. I typically use the coarser grits like 120 for things like smoothing out a rough saw cut in stainless steel. One of the things you will find in using these ranges of grit on a mechanical sander is that a grit like 120 will give you a much nicer finish than it would if you used this grade of grit sanding by hand. The 1000 grit can be used for sharpening, but I prefer a 22 or 15 micron grit for that. Those grits will give you a mirror finish without taking off too much metal. The 1000 grit I find still pretty aggressive for the likes of kitchen knives.These give a terrific "brushed" patina on stainless steel.
