  • The most common problem with speakers are rotted, torn or damaged surrounds. The surround is the outer suspension part of the cone. Constant vibration, time and the environment cause foam and rubber surrounds to degrade. Cloth and paper surrounds can become brittle. This causes distortion and poor performance. Luckily, our easy to install repair kits will make your old speakers sound just like new!

4 hour repair time - perfect results. See Tom P.’s approach above. Repair set-up is: roll speaker cabinet onto back - support with 2x 3/4” thick spacers to prevent the smashing of protruding knobs & switches. Remove old foam & clean per directions with speaker in place for stability during chiseling and rib-cutting operation. Flush toenail cutter works well on rib surgery, plastic cone surface must be smooth after removing rib-sections, use a razor knife. Just before the gluing operation, remove speaker retaining screws, note 2 frame-holes have 3/8”-16 machine threads, use with 1” bolts and make-shift wire as handle to lift heavy speaker a few inches and set ears down onto 2x 1 1/2” thick wood chunks onto cabinet face - do not attempt to remove the speaker from this cabinet! It has electronics on the back and cannot be set down - must be mounted or suspended. Stabilize heavy speaker on wood supports, glue & exercise cone as directed. Excellent product & support - worked perfectly the first time, just do it!

The attachment to the speaker cone needs modification. The vertical fins on the speaker cone need to be cut back 5/16" so that the angled surround foam can be attached with glue. This surround is the only 15.25" OD available, so not an exact fit but it works. The OEM surround has 11.25" ID with flat attachment to speaker cone. This surround is angled with 10.25" ID therefore attaches on angled part of speaker cone necessitating modification of the vertical fins mentioned above.
