I haven't yet used this but I'm really hopeful that it will make the job of installing a mailbox post easier and that it will hold up. It's a very solid thick metal. Very nice quality and durable! I'll update how well it works once installed. It comes with thick bolts to secure the part the wood goes into to the bottom part that you put in the ground. That part is about 18" long and tapers down to a point to make it easier to go in the ground. I'm concerned since it's only about 18" long that it won't hold the heavy post in the ground unless you put concrete in once installed. It has an opening at the top and mentions that the holes are for concrete but I think you would have to dig to be able to properly pour in concrete. I don't know. We'll see.

I got this to mount a retractable hose reel, which is a very convenient tool, but also very heavy and unwieldy, about 35-40lbs. in my estimation, and I was not ready to punch holes into the side of stucco siding to break the water seal and for something that has the potential to rip out the wall after heavy use. So I mounted a 4x4 that is cut to 4ft length with this spike, and the 22" length so far seems to be holding the hose reel steadily with minimum swaying with all the tugs and pulls involved when using retractable hose reels. I think a 36" spike might work even better, but a shortened post length with low mounting point can work well with this 22" spike to reduce the effect of leverage effect. The 2-piece design is a mixed bag, it's a pain from the install perspective, but feels just as strong as 1 piece once its put together, it is rigid enough for my purpose, I have no doubt it is a cost saving measure to reduce the shipping cost, especially since the asking price is only around $20 for almost 4 lb. of solid steel, so once I got over the hassle in messing with small bolts in dirt, the end result is fine and should lasts for years given the weight and the thick layer of paint.

[As a Vine member, Amazon lets me pick from a pool of free products in exchange for my honest review. Good, bad, or ugly, I call them like I see them.]Not as tall as the 3' post spikes you see at your orange/blue hardware stores. But that's ok, at least for me, because the soil here turns to clay after about 1' and driving those others became a real chore toward the end. This one does not have internal fins to bite into your 4x4, but that's not so bad either. When you drive this down and there are fins, you drive your hammer block deep onto the fins and it can be a pain to remove. Be sure when you put yours togeter to use the lock washer between the bold head and the plate, or they can wiggle free in your hammering install or just the yearly thermal cycles.Build quality is good. A lot of times these copycat items can feel really inferior/cheap. This one feels just as good, just as solid as those others from the blue/orange stores.I'll update this review after I get this in the ground. Waiting on other materials at the moment.

Review of 1 Pcs 4"x4" Fence Post Anchor Ground Spike,(Internal 3.6"x3.6"),Metal Post Stake Ground 22" with Black Powder-Coated,Fence Stakes Post Base for Deck,Fence,Porch,Railing,MailboxQuality:Good. The anchor is straight and very heavy. Coating is uniform. Hardware is adequate.Impressions:This is a very sturdy ground anchor. It's quite heavy, feels more like cast iron than sheet metal. The coating is good. The business end is quite pointy and should go into most soil types with ease. The hardware is more than adequate. I usually don't use most hardware that's included with an item but I'll use these as they look to be of decent quality. There were instructions included for those who need it. The directions are correct and easy to follow.I've used a couple of this type of post anchor in the past and this one feels so much more durable than the ones I have. I plan to use this to install a 4x4 post to which I will mount wireless security cameras. We're in an area that gets hard freezes over the winter and this is long enough to stay straight and secure with freeze and thaw cycles.Looking forward to installing my cameras using this post anchor.

I understand the application of a 2-part installation system but find that it creates more issues than it avoids. First you ‘wet the soil’, then drive in the stake. Next, the post base needs to be aligned with the holes for screws then the whole thing needs to be level and plumb now or after you insert the post and attach it. Now you will likely need to pound at the ground again to firm the whole thing in position. Don’t lean on it…you still need to brace it till the ‘wet soil’ dries and hardens. Okay, now you can give it a wiggle. It’s a lot of fussing just to realize that it’s not solid enough to attach a fence section that is likely to flop in the rainy season or heave during winter’s heavy freeze. On the plus side, this sort of system can be nice for smaller applications where you don’t want to add concrete. A post for a birdhouse would be nice, or maybe you want to support a bee watering station. Two posts with netting between would make a quick screen when planted with morning glories and it could be removed at the end of season for repurposing in the next. All the drilled holes lined up on the set I received. The anchor will be set in my vegetable garden with a short post fitted with a hose hanger on one side and hooks for sprinkling cans of the other.
